Hall of Fame chaps make it to Rose Parade, Cowboy Downhill (by Johnna Espinoza)
The book that sparked the movie The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants may have a little competition. The "Brotherhood of the Traveling Chaps" is under way, led by six-time World Champion All-Around Cowboy Larry Mahan. The ProRodeo Hall of Famer is traveling the country wearing ProRodeo Hall of Fame chaps to help promote the Hall, which is located in Colorado Springs, Colo.
The custom chaps, which were specially designed for the Hall of Fame by Ty Skiver, will be at Western events and rodeos throughout 2009.
"Each cowboy who wears them will sign them," said Tanna Kimble, ProRodeo Hall of Fame associate director.
The chaps will be auctioned off at the Second Annual Gold Buckle Gala to be held at the South Point Hotel, Casino and Spa in Las Vegas in conjunction with the 2009 Wrangler National Finals Rodeo in December.
Mahan wore the Hall of Fame chaps in the Rose Parade on Jan. 1 in Pasadena, Calif. He also skied in the chaps at the Cowboy Downhill ski race on Jan. 20 at the Steamboat Ski and Resort in Steamboat Springs, Colo. World Champion Bull Rider Charles Sampson posed for photos wearing the chaps at the race’s finish line.
The Traveling Chaps are off to San Antonio, Texas this week for the 60th Annual San Antonio Stock Show and Rodeo.
