Visitors to the ProRodeo Hall of Fame in Colorado Springs, Colo., will get a glimpse of rodeo royalty when they stop by for a tour of the Hall this year.
Miss Rodeo America 2008 Amy Wilson has loaned her white, floor-length leather dress designed by Susan Rummel of Riding High USA to the Hall for rodeo fans to enjoy. The "Crown" dress was specially designed to match the Landstrom’s Original Black Hills Gold Creations crown Miss Rodeo America wears.
"After wearing the beautiful dress at the Miss Rodeo America Coronation and the World Champion’s Breakfast, I think the perfect place for it is in the ProRodeo Hall of Fame," said the Colby, Kan., cowgirl. "I have always loved visiting the ProRodeo Hall of Fame, and I’m excited and honored that my dress is going to be displayed in such an awesome place, right next to the very first Landstrom’s Miss Rodeo America crown."

"Brotherhood of the Traveling Chaps"

The book that sparked the movie The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants may have a little competition. The "Brotherhood of the Traveling Chaps" is under way, led by six-time World Champion All-Around Cowboy Larry Mahan. The ProRodeo Hall of Famer is traveling the country wearing ProRodeo Hall of Fame chaps to help promote the Hall, which is located in Colorado Springs, Colo.
The custom chaps, which were specially designed for the Hall of Fame by Ty Skiver, will be at Western events and rodeos throughout 2009.
"Each cowboy who wears them will sign them," said Tanna Kimble, ProRodeo Hall of Fame associate director.
The chaps will be auctioned off at the Second Annual Gold Buckle Gala to be held at the South Point Hotel, Casino and Spa in Las Vegas in conjunction with the 2009 Wrangler National Finals Rodeo in December.
Mahan wore the Hall of Fame chaps in the Rose Parade on Jan. 1 in Pasadena, Calif. He also skied in the chaps at the Cowboy Downhill ski race on Jan. 20 at the Steamboat Ski and Resort in Steamboat Springs, Colo. World Champion Bull Rider Charles Sampson posed for photos wearing the chaps at the race’s finish line.
The Traveling Chaps are off to San Antonio, Texas this week for the 60th Annual San Antonio Stock Show and Rodeo.

We're waiting for ya!

The ProRodeo Hall of Fame and Museum of the American Cowboy is the only museum in the world devoted exclusively to the sport of rodeo and its star, the rodeo cowboy. The doors opened in August of 1979 and that first year they honored 69 two-legged plus 14 four-legged contestants. The museum is located adjacent to the national headquarters of the Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association in Colorado Springs, Colorado . It allows visitors to trace the history of rodeo and relive the glory of its greatest champions.

Visitors to the Hall are greeted by “The Champ”, a larger-than-life statue of legendary bronc rider Casey Tibbs riding the famed saddle bronc Necktie. The bronze statue was unveiled in August 1989 to honor Tibbs, a nine-time world champion between 1949 and 1959.

Two theaters inside the Hall detail the history of rodeo and the lifestyle of the modern rodeo cowboy. Exhibits show the development of rodeo equipment while the Champions Hall honors rodeo’s most accomplished champions.

The Hall of Fame selection committee each year selects individuals for induction. All inductees must have contributed greatly to the sport.

The garden and outdoor exhibits area includes bronzes and a real rodeo arena. The facility is ideal for special events from receptions to concerts. The large catering kitchen, plus outdoor barbeque grills, makes the presentation of such events a pleasure.

The Hall of Fame operations are supported by admission revenues, membership dues, special event revenues, individual and corporate contributions and sales from the museum store. The store itself contains a wide-variety of rodeo merchandise and Hall of Fame memoribilia.

The Hall is a 501-C-3 non-profit educational institution. Memberships are available through the PRCA Associate Membership program for the serious rodeo fan and all proceeds go to the ProRodeo Hall of Fame.
